Radiator a’la MLI

Technical data

  • structure, similar to MLI
  • fully passive
  • total weight: 1,5 kg/m2

CURRENT TRL: 4
TRL 7 BY 09.25

A simple radiator attached directly to the heat source. Completely passive, it can be made in any shape to your specific order and needs so that it meets the requirements of the mission. Attached to the wall of the satellite with pins or Velcro like MLI. It can also be permanently glued to a specific surface.

DEPLOYABLE BY UNFOLDING

Technical data

  • fully passive
  • one-shot deployment
  • radiation to both sides
  • total weight: 3 kg/m2

Unfoldable radiator based on tape springs – allows the heat sink surface to automatically unfold and lock into the required position. During launch, the heatsink surface is folded along the satellite wall and held in place with the HDRM; when the satellite is activated and the HDRM is released, the radiator spreads out and operates normally. With this solution, at a negligible mass cost, we gain a large surface area that dissipates heat and allows the satellite payload to work more efficiently.

DEPLOYABLE BY UNROLLING

Technical data

  • radiator rolled on spool
  • active, with motor
  • allows to control level of rejected heat
  • total weight: TBD

TRL 5

An actively developed heat sink allows control of the radiation surface. The radiation surface in this solution is wound on a roller driven by an electric motor. Thanks to the tape springs constituting the mast for the radiator, the roller with the motor can develop in the direction away from the satellite ensuring a stationary connection between the heat sink surface and the heat source.

The project: Design of the design, build and functional testing of the thermal radiator development mechanism for satellites was funded by the European Union.

In addition, as part of the project, we implemented an ISO 9001 quality control system for satellite component design into our company and purchase the necessary tools. We also expanded the territorial coverage of our patent application, participated in the Space Tech Expo Europe in Bremen and created our new website.

The end result of the project was the working prototype of the radiator unrolling mechanism and its functional testing in a laboratory environment
